Watch Setup: Automatic movement

Before After

Thank you for trusting us to build your new watch.

Let’s help you get familiar with your hand built timepiece and explain how to set it up properly.

Movement

These are self winding mechanical movements, meaning there is no battery and they are powered by wrist movement and or manual winding.

Winding the movement

During shipping or when the watch is not worn for a while, the movement may lose its charge and the watch can stop. This is completely normal.

You simply need to wind it again or gently shake it, depending on how much power remains.

A fully charged movement requires between 55 and 65 full rotations of the crown and can last 40 plus hours.

To wind the watch:

  1. Unscrew the crown by turning it toward you until it pops out slightly.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise, away from you, between 20 and 50 times depending on how much charge is needed.

This will tension the mainspring and restart the automatic
movement.

Setting the date, GMT, and time

To set the date:

  1. Unscrew the crown by turning it toward you until it pops out slightly.
  2. Gently pull it outward until you feel the first click.
  3. Rotate the crown counter clockwise, toward you, to adjust the date.

If your watch is a GMT model:

Stay in the same position and rotate the crown clockwise, away from you, to adjust the GMT hand.

Please note:

One full rotation of the GMT hand equals 24 hours, while the main hour hand operates on a 12 hour format.

Therefore, the GMT hand moves at half the speed of the hour hand.

This corresponds with the 24 hour bezel.

To set the time:

  1. Pull the crown outward again until it clicks into the outermost position.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise only to set the time.

Important:

Avoid rotating counter clockwise in this position, as it may create unnecessary strain and reduce the longevity of the movement.

Securing the crown

Once you have finished setting up your watch:

  1. Push the crown inward.
  2. Rotate it clockwise until it is fully screwed down and secure.

This ensures the crown is properly sealed.
